A Bradenton woman was injured when her car was rear-ended on U.S. 41. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash took place around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2013.
The FHP report stated that the two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 41 and U.S. 301 in Bradenton. The 20-year-old woman was traveling north on U.S. 41 in her 1993 Honda Accord when her car was struck from the rear. She was stopped for traffic when she was rear-ended.
Sadly, the driver in the rear fled the scene following the collision. FHP revealed that they are looking for a male driver in a newer model green SUV. The SUV driver took off from the scene headed northbound on U.S. 41 and east on 30th Avenue East. He has been described as a lightly heavy male, possibly in his 20s, with short hair, and his vehicle—possibly a Lincoln or Tahoe—should have damage to the bumper.
The female driver suffered minor injuries in this crash, and anyone with information about the hit-and-run driver is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol.
Unfortunately, hit-and-run crashes in Florida happen way too frequently. Did you know that there were nearly 70,000 hit-and-run collisions in 2012 in our state? According to The Journal News, hit-and-runs are on the rise. This is why legislators are considering a bill that would impose a three-year sentence on a hit-and-run driver, seven-year sentence if someone was seriously injured, and a ten-year sentence for fatal collisions.
