A teenage girl was hit by a car while she attempted to cross Bee Ridge Road on June 3, 2013. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 14-year-old girl crossed the street against the electronic “Don’t Walk” sign.
This Sarasota pedestrian accident took place around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Bee Ridge Road and Beneve Road. Authorities said the girl stepped out into the crosswalk even though the sign indicated that she shouldn’t cross. When she did this, she walked into the path of an oncoming car.
The driver of the car, 21-year-old Stephen Thomas Rohner, was traveling westbound on Bee Ridge in his 2002 Chevy Impala when the girl stepped out in front of him. The Florida Highway Patrol reports indicate that Rohner was approaching a green light and attempted to avoid hitting the girl. He steered to the right, but the front left of his car still hit her.
When emergency crews arrived on scene, they airlifted the girl with critical injuries to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. The 14-year-old has since been identified as Dalla Anzures, and she is still in critical condition.
Rohner was traveling with an 18-year-old passenger, and both remained uninjured in this crash.
Ten days earlier, a male pedestrian was hit while crossing Bee Ridge Road. According to Florida Highway Patrol, he as well stepped into the path of a vehicle. This collision occurred just before 10 p.m. on Friday night, May 24, 2013.
The male pedestrian was last listed in serious condition at Blake Medical Center and has been identified as 49-year-old Darryl Hammis.
