On Monday, June 10, 2013, a Sarasota motorcycle accident turned fatal for one male motorcyclist. According to authorities, the deadly motorcycle crash occurred at a Sarasota intersection around 3 p.m. at Bee Ridge Road and Tuttle Avenue.

The Florida Highway Patrol indicated that a motorcyclist was heading north on Swift Road approaching the Bee Ridge Road intersection when a motorist in a Dodge Dakota was traveling south on Tuttle Avenue approaching the intersection of Bee Ridge Road. The motorist was in the left turn lane and attempted to turn left onto Bee Ridge Road.

According to witnesses, the motorcyclist went through the intersection as the light turned red at the same time the car proceeded to turn left. The front of the motorcycle hit the passenger side of Dodge. Sadly, the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and sustained critical injuries. He was airlifted to Blake Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead and identified as 26-year-old Michael Hicks, of Sarasota.

The driver of the Dodge Dakota, 33-year-old James McFarland, of Sarasota, and his passenger, 38-year-old Shalia Parmalee, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

The Florida Highway Patrol had the close down portions of the intersection where this fatal Sarasota motorcycle crash took place. No charges have been made in this wreck at this time.

Our Sarasota personal injury law firm would like to wish the motorists in the Dodge Dakota a full and fast recovery, and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Michael Hicks.
