The accident occurred around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning when the driver was pulling out of a shopping center entrance. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Ronald Sylvester, 62, was driving his 2011 red ZLMC scooter westbound on 17th Street near Lockwood Ridge Road by the Ace Hardware shopping center entrance. At the same time, a car pulled out of the parking lot and collided with the scooter.
Jonathan Diego of Sarasota, the 19-year-old driver of the passenger car, said he didn’t see the scooter approaching, which is why he pulled out of the parking lot and didn’t yield to the scooter. Sadly, he ended up turning his 2000 Mitsubishi Montero SUV onto the street in Sylvester’s path.
The scooter hit the left side of the SUV, overturned and slid to a stop. Sylvester suffered serious injuries and was flown to a St. Petersburg trauma center for medical treatment. Unfortunately, the crash left the 62-year-old motorcyclist critically injured.
Diego did not suffer any injuries. There is no word on Sylvester’s condition at this time.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, but says that alcohol was not a factor in this crash. No traffic citations have been issued at this time.
Sarasota car accident attorneys at Mallard Perez would like to wish Ronald Sylvester strength to get through this difficult time, and hope he has a full and fast recovery.
