The serious accident took place at University Parkway and Lockwood Ridge Road on Wednesday afternoon. Troopers reported that Isaiah Jackson rode his bicycle into the path of an oncoming Kenworth truck. Tyler Bowser, 35, of Sarasota, was driving the T800 truck when he struck the boy and his bike.
The truck was traveling in the right lane of University approaching Lockwood Ridge when the five-year-old rode his bike across the crosswalk on University. FHP indicated that the bike went through the crosswalk while the truck had a green light.
Unfortunately, the trucker was unable to avoid Isaiah, even though he braked. About 151 feet of skid marks were seen on the road in that area. The five-year-old was ejected from his Redline Roam bike, as the truck hit the right side of the bicycle.
According to troopers, the little boy was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with critical injuries. Sadly, Isaiah wasn’t wearing a helmet.
Police are still investigating this crash and charges are pending.
Another bicyclist was struck last month on Siesta Key and suffered serious injuries as a result.
Sarasota accident attorneys at Mallard Perez would like to wish Isaiah Jackson and the other recently injured bicyclists full and fast recoveries.
