On Sunday, June 2, 2013, a Sarasota car accident claimed the life of one man and injured three people. According to authorities, the crash involved a four-door sedan and a sports utility vehicle (SUV).
The Sarasota crash occurred just before 7 p.m. near the intersection of University Parkway and DeSoto Road, close to the Sarasota Kennel Club. According to the Sarasota Police, the driver of the dark sedan was traveling west on University Parkway toward DeSoto Road when he lost control after crossing railroad tracks. His car crossed the median, struck a tree, and then veered into an SUV that had three people inside.
The driver of the car died of the injuries he sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the accident scene. He was later identified as 34-year-old Andrew Davis Truex, of Sarasota. Authorities indicated that no one else was traveling with Truex at the time of the crash.
The Lincoln SUV had three people inside who were all injured, including:
- Front seat passenger Kenneth Davidson, 44, suffered critical injuries and was taken to Blake Medical Center as a trauma alert
- Driver Patricia Bailey, 78, suffered undisclosed injuries and was transported to Sarasota Memorial
- Back seat passenger Kaye Swan, 70, also sustained undisclosed injuries and was taken to Sarasota Memorial
Police closed the intersection down for several hours after this fatal collision for investigation and cleanup.
