Since the beginning of the month there have been several pedestrian accidents in the Tampa/ Sarasota area. Some of these accidents were fatal. A couple of the cases that are being investigated involve drivers that left the scene of the accident.

Thursday morning, in the St. Petersburg area, a man was hit by a car as he was crossing 49th Street North. Floyd Clutter, of St. Petersburg was driving. He tried to avoid hitting the man but he couldn’t stop in time. The name of the pedestrian has not been released. He later died at Northside Hospital.

Another pedestrian accident occurred on US-41 in Gibsonton. Jose Martin was driving and stated that he did not see the person crossing the road. The pedestrian was not using a cross walk. The pedestrian was killed. His name has not been released.

Thursday morning, just after midnight, Jonathan Redding was hit by a car while he was riding his skateboard. He was in the bike lane on Providence Road in Brandon. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital. In this accident, the driver left the scene. Someone later reported seeing someone trying to cover up damage to his windshield. Due to this tip, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department was able to find the driver of the vehicle. Ronald Cineas was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries and driving on a suspended license. He admitted to driving the vehicle and hitting something while driving on Providence Road.
