Police indicated that Yarzab was traveling southbound on U.S. 41, approaching Lychee Road and the Waterfronttoo Grille & Steakhouse, when an 85-year-old female driver pulled out of the restaurant’s parking lot onto Tamiami Trail/US 41. Because the car pulled into his direct path, Yarzab wasn’t able to avoid striking the left side of the car with his motorcycle.
Polly Lawrence, of Sarasota, was charged with Violation of the Right of Way for pulling her 2010 Chrysler Town and Country sedan out of the parking lot and into the path of Yarzab’s motorcycle. Although Yarzab was wearing his motorcycle helmet, he still suffered critical injuries in this Nokomis crash and was taken by paramedics to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Yarzab was known by many in the community, as he was the General Manager at the Venice Yacht Club. He also served on several boards, and he was active in the Venice-Nokomis Rotary Club. Under his leadership, the club was recognized by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for its pollution controls to protect waterways.
Yarzab worked at the Venice Yacht Club for 25 years, and is survived by his wife of 22 years, Geri Keubler Yarzab, three daughters and four grandchildren.
Mallard Perez is deeply saddened for the Yarzab’s family loss, and would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of David Yarzab.
