On Monday, May 6, 2013, a tragic Florida motorcycle accident took place that left a motorcyclist without one of his legs. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Petersburg motorcycle crash occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Bay Pines Boulevard.
The sheriff’s office indicated that the male motorcyclist was driving a 1993 Harley-Davidson from the Duhme Causeway onto the Bay Pines triangle interchange when he crashed. According to officials, the biker was attempting to turn onto Bay Pines Boulevard from the median lane when he lost control of his motorcycle.
When the motorcyclist lost control of his bike, he drove into the guard rail—severing his left leg. Upon impact, he was ejected from the bike; however, he was not wearing a motorcycle helmet. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg for medical treatment.
Not only did the motorcyclist lose a leg in the crash, but he suffered serious injuries to his head, according to the sheriff’s office. Although this crash was only a single-vehicle accident, life-threatening injuries were the result in this case.
The motorcyclist has been identified as 45-year-old Donald Budd Sutton, of Madeira Beach.
Police are still investigating this Florida motorcycle crash. However, the sheriff’s office does not believe speed and alcohol were factors in this accident.
