An accident involving 2 vehicles left one person dead and another charged with vehicular manslaughter. According to investigators, Tuesday night, Alfred McKnight, 28, caused an accident on Interstate 10. His reckless driving caused the death of 17-year-old Sharmaine White.
The accident occurred around 11:20 pm, when McKnight crashed his Ford Crown Victoria into a GMC SUV on I-10. The impact caused the young driver of the SUV to lose control. The SUV then flew into a concrete guardrail and flipped several times. Sharmaine White was a passenger in the SUV. She was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact.
Alfred McKnight was taken to the police station after the accident. His blood alcohol registered at 0.117, the legal limit is 0.08. He was immediately arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving. He was not injured in the accident. The driver and other passenger in the SUV were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
