On February 19, 2014, a serious pedestrian accident on Fletcher Avenue in Tampa occurred. Sadly, an elderly pedestrian was killed after being struck by a truck near the intersection of Florida and Fetcher avenues, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Initial reports indicated that a truck towing a trailer loaded with a tractor struck the pedestrian. Police determined that the pedestrian was on the east shoulder sidewalk and began walking across the street toward the west when he was hit by the passenger side of the truck. However, after investigations by the Florida Highway Patrol, they determined that the pedestrian walked into the path of the truck.

The driver of the truck has been identified as 41-year-old Timothy Harvey Danenhower. According to the sheriff’s office, he was heading northbound on Florida Avenue at the time of the crash, and he was not injured in the wreck.

This deadly accident took place around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, and prompted the closure of Florida Avenue in both directions between 131st and Fletcher avenues for the remainder of the afternoon due to an accident investigation. The Florida Highway Patrol handled the investigation while the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office took care of the traffic control in the area.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol deputies, the pedestrian died at the accident scene of his injuries. He has only been identified as a 64-years-old male. His identity has not been released at this time.

Mallard Perez is deeply saddened to hear of this tragedy and would like to wish the pedestrian’s family and friends our deepest sympathies.
