It seems like there have been many scooter accidents in Florida recently. Whether you have read about them online or in the newspaper, or heard about one of the multiple South Florida scooter crashes on television, there is no denying that Sarasota has had one too many scooter accidents in recent days.

In the last several weeks there have been two serious scooter accidents in the Sarasota area, including:

  • A hit-and-run scooter accident that took place on Monday, May 14, just south of Whitfield. Police indicated that the scooter driver was hit from behind and thrown from the scooter, causing critical injuries. The female scooter operator was then run over by another driver, but that driver left the accident scene.

  • The next South Florida scooter accident ended in fatal injuries for the scooter operator. This scooter crash took place June 1, 2012, in Dunedin. Sadly, the 26-year-old operator died when a driver of a car attempted a left turn, pulling out in front of the scooter.

Drivers Should Beware of Scooters This Summer

When the weather is nice, more scooters hit the road. Especially now that the summer months are upon us, Florida drivers need to be extremely careful sharing the roads with scooters, motorcycles and bicycles to ensure their safety.

When scooters, motorcycles and bicycles are involved in Sarasota crashes, the operators of these vehicles are often seriously injured or killed as a result.
